Men. Women. Mature adults. Single adults. There's a place for you! Marvin is geared toward equipping our members to share the Gospel. From Bible studies to small groups to Sunday School classes, you'll find information here to help you grow in your faith and become a stronger disciple.

A disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ who is growing in love for God and others. Jesus calls us to be disciples and to make disciples. And in so being and in so doing we are a part of something bigger than ourselves. We are the body of Christ, and each one of us is a part of it.

Marvin is geared toward helping our members share the Gospel. From Bible studies to small groups to Sunday School classes, you'll find information here to help you grow in your faith and become a stronger disciple.

Midweek classes

One part of our Discipleship Pathway includes our Midweek classes, a slate of classes on Wednesday nights each spring and fall. Spring 2024 classes run from January to April. A few of our spring offerings are below, with more to come.

Midweek Wednesday evenings include food, fellowship and transformation. Each week the $5 meal begins at 5 p.m. in Pirtle Hall and classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. and are free unless otherwise noted.

How We Got the Bible

Leader: Robert Hand

A central belief of Christians across time and place is that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God for us. At the same time, it is also a collection of human writings that was compiled by humans under the guidance of the Spirit over the course of many centuries. Questions abound about this process: Who decided what books were included and excluded? What criteria were used? When exactly did all this take place? Join us in this class as we explore and clarify this often-misunderstood history and also establish further reason to trust in the authenticity of the Old and New Testaments as the Word of God for the people of God.

Catechism of the Global Methodist Church - Part 1

Leader: Rev. Gerry Giles

The goal of catechesis is to understand, recall, profess and enjoy the church’s essential teachings, which includes the essence of the central theological confessions of the church and the essential doctrinal commitments of the GMC denomination. Part 2 focuses on our distinctives as Wesleyan Methodists.

Women | He's Where the Joy Is - Getting to Know the Captivating God of the Trinity

Leader: Rev. Brandy Stevens

In this class we'll look at the Trinity as a whole and examine each of the persons of God individually—Father, Son and Spirit. A richer understanding of God in His three-in-oneness will begin to inform everything about the way you make peace with your past, live in the present, look to the future and interact with others. He's waiting to delight you with who he is!

GriefShare is a 13-week Christ-centered grief support group that will help you recover from the deep hurt following the loss of a loved one. Materials are provided at no cost.

Marvin Women

When moms are resourced, when moms are elevated, when moms are educated,
when moms are empowered to do what they are meant to do in the world, everyone is better because of it.

MomCo is a group for mothers of children from birth to kindergarten. MomCo encourages and equips moms of young children to realize their potential as mothers, women and leaders, in relationship with Jesus and in partnership with the local church.

Marvin MomCo meets from 10 a.m. to noon  twice a month on Thursday mornings at Marvin. It's a place for moms to share their hopes, fears and insight alongside other moms and mentor moms, all while enjoying childcare, breakfast and speakers from the Tyler community. We build circles of women who love each other like family, because we believe in the transformative potential of relationships and mentoring (Hebrews 10:25).

In addition to monthly meetings, MomCo hosts a bake sale at the church each fall featuring their famous pumpkin rolls and participates in a mission project each year. MomCo also coordinates at least one optional social activity per semester.

Annual dues are $85 and may be paid at the first meeting. All prices include both local and international dues. There is no additional charge for childcare. Confidential scholarships are available to assist with financial costs.
