The church celebrates the work of God in the child’s life, symbolized by the baptism. Children are presented by their parents or guardians who promise to nurture them in the church family so they may come to lead a Christian life and one day become professing members of the church. The Christian community responds in faith to God’s grace by claiming and incorporating this new baptized member of Christ’s holy Church.
Persons of any age are suitable candidates for baptism because Christ’s body, the church, is a great family that includes persons of all ages.
Infants or children can be baptized, in which the church celebrates the work of God in the child’s life. Children are presented by their parents or guardians who promise to nurture them in the church family so they may come to lead a Christian life and one day become professing members of the church. The Christian community responds in faith to God’s grace by claiming and incorporating this new baptized member of Christ’s holy church.
The United Methodist Church also performs believer’s baptism, where a person who has made the decision to follow Christ is baptized as part of their public profession of faith. The UMC does not re-baptize, but believers can remember their baptism and thank God for His saving grace.
If you would like to be baptized or present your child for baptism, please contact the church office to coordinate arrangements with a pastor.
