Kara Story
Director of Music and Fine Arts
Kara Story serves as the Director of Music and Fine Arts at Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas. She conducts the Chancel Choir and Laude Chorum, a young adult choir, and oversees the Robinson Handbells and Celebration Children’s Choir. Kara is also responsible for planning and producing the Marvin Concert Series, an annual presentation of seven musical performances across sacred and secular genres. Under her direction, the Marvin Chancel Choir has toured Austria and Czech Republic. They have sung in NYC’s Lincoln Center, and were asked to sing at the Global Methodist Church Annual Conference. Beyond the church, Kara enjoys her work as a singer, guest conductor and guest clinician.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and Masters Degree in Choral Conducting from The University of Arkansas – Fayetteville. She was named Outstanding Soloist at the North Texas Jazz Festival and was invited to sing at the White House in Washington, D.C. Kara was a guest artist in the Messiah Project’s tour of the United Arab Emirates, Greece, and Turkey, and she conducted the Messiah Project Singers on their tour of Austria. She has sung in choirs touring various countries in Europe, including England, Ireland, Austria, and Poland, and has sung on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City. Kara served as Interim Director of Choral Activities at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX and resides in Tyler with her husband, Jonathan, and rescue dogs, Bonnie and J.J.
