THE MARVIN WAY
Prayer
“Pray without ceasing.” Thessalonians 5:17
“Prayer is where the action is.” —John Wesley
All ministry will be grounded in prayer as we seek to listen to God’s direction, be obedient to His Word and serve by His power.
Humility
“In humility consider others better than yourself.” Philippians 2:3
“I am content to fill a little space if God be glorified.” —Susanna Wesley
Following our servant Christ, we will use our gifts and abilities to serve others knowing that it is never about us.
Passion
“Run in such a way to get the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:24
“O God, take our hearts and set them on fire.” —John Wesley
God chose to put a little of Himself inside of all of our hearts. That is our passion. Live fully in the present.
Unity
"If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand." Mark 3:2-4
“T.E.A.M. means Together Everyone Achieves More.”
As staff and laity we will work together as a family to encourage one another as we lead and follow in pursuit of our goals.
Servanthood
“Whoever wants to be great among you will be your servant.” Mark 10:43
“O Lord, help us to become masters of ourselves that we might be the servants of others.” —John Wesley
A desire to serve precedes the conscious choice to lead. Characteristics of servant leadership include listening, empathy, awareness, foresight, stewardship, and commitment to growing others. As one descends in serving, more people are loved.
Thankfulness
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Thanksgiving is inseparable from true prayer; it is almost essentially connected with it.” —John Wesley
We will express our thanks to God believing that gratefulness leads to great fullness in our lives.
Accountability
“For with the judgment you make, you will be judged.” Matthew 7:2
“Watch over one another in love.” —John Wesley
What can I do to make this situation better and learn something that will advance the Kingdom of Christ? Can I live the change I hope to bring in others?
Risk Taking
“Have I not commanded you? ‘Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’” Joshua 1:9
“Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.” —John Wesley
As a church we encourage risk-taking ministries, because If we only try things that we know can be accomplished, there is no need for God to show up; thus something done without risk is not done in faith. We desire to dream big and watch God show up.
For Christ’s Glory
“It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me.” Galatians 2:20
“Oh, that I could spend every moment of my life to God's glory!” —John Wesley
Serve in such a way that Christ is the recipient of all praise. Be willing to deflect affirmations to our Lord.
